Kitesurfing across Torres Straight - the video...
Here is the full edit of the Pink Torres Crossing diary shot whilst on the trip
The trip raised $70k for the McGrath Breast Cancer foundation.
11 of the 16 kitesurfers that embarked on the incredible mission to cross the Torres from Cape York to the border of Papua New Guinea completed the journey unassisted. It took the team 5 gruelling days and a total 399km, facing a multitude of challenges out there - not least the weather, team logistics, hydration, navigation, boat support. They slept on inhabited sandy reefs and also with generous an welcoming local Torres communities - getting exceptional support from the people of Masig Island.
It wouldn't have been possible without the support of their friends, families, MyNetFone, Blade Kiteboarding, Helpworld, CanaccordGenuity and a plethora of other companies and people that helped pull this together
The 16 kitesurfers were Geoff Wilson, Alex Unsworth, Nick Cole, Richard Hatherall, Jason Rogers, Pete Smith, Jess Syne, Christelle Le Baccon, Jen Phillips, Maurizio Fernandez, Phil Barton, Nigel Tyndall, John Rothe, Jansen Wong, Ben Hew, Miles Paludin
Special congratulations to the 11 to complete every leg unassisted and attain World First status: Geoff, Alex, Nick, Rich, Jason, Pete, Phil Jansen and all three girls Jess, Christelle and Jen. Special mention to Pete who went strapless on a surfboard.
Geoff Wilson led the expedition while Alex Unsworth pulled together the team, sponsors/media and custom pink kites
