Kiteboard racing kicks off in Sydney for this summer season
Last years series was a huge success.
The first kitesurfing race, including sign on and season opener BBQ will be held this weekend on the 22nd of October, at the usual location just South of Hollywood St, off the Grand Parade.
All entries and skill levels are welcome, and according to those in the know, this year there'll be more prizes, more entrants and hopefully at least a little bit of wind!
Last year, the success of the kite racing series was largely contributed to the 'have a go' attitude of all participants, and especially the event sponsors. Cabrinha, in conjunction with local shops Kitepower Australia and Wind Surf and Snow, kindly made available several race boards for the competitors to use during racing. This gave everyone a taste of the 'good stuff' and motivated a lot of riders to try out the latest technology in racing boards. For those not so keen on the quad finned speed machines, there were many notable results from riders on normal surfboards and even light wind twin tips. It just goes to show that one wipeout will send the fanciest race board from the front, to the back of the pack in less time than it takes to say "Check out my carbon fibre footstrap bolts".
If you'd like to enter this years race series, check out the NSWKBA website for more information, or simply head down at 2pm this Saturday. All you need is a kite or two, a 'can do' attitude and AKSA insurance.
