Keahi De Aboitiz wins the KSP kitesurfing world title

Keahi nailed his final, sealing his win over Mitu
It's been a long time coming, but this year Keahi's finally pulled it all together and won the world kite surfing title in Ho'okipa on Maui.

Everyone said for years that if Keahi managed to enter all the events in a world tour, he'd come out on the podium. He's just too good not to! But in his second year of competing in the KSP, he's done it. He's officially the best surfer in the world. Riding with a newfound classic style on the final day, Keahi put away the showy aerials and got down to business, keeping tight in the pocket with plenty of power in his turns. The perfect technique was what the judges were looking for, and Keahi rightly advanced through the final to beat Mitu Monteiro from Cabo Verde. Over the whole year, the two were tied with equal points for all events and coming into Maui, they knew that it would be a fight to the death. With such similar styles (and arsenal of strapless freestle tricks) it's going to be interesting to see how these two end up over the next season.

Adding to the win, was Keahi's team mate Moona White from the USA, who rode her Cabrinha Drifter hard to take the event title in her first ever KSP event. Unfortunately missing the first three events meant she dropped back to 13th place for the overall standings, but look out for her next year when she's going to be in the top few girls for sure!
