Kai Lenny and his mate Kainoa McGee go kitesurfing

Kainoa Goes back to basics...
When a big name professional surfer decides to try something totally new like Kitesurfing, it's kind of a big deal. Not just for the fans, but mostly for the rider themselves.

Kainoa McGee is well known in the surfing circles for his bravado and confidence when it comes to big wave surfing, but when he hooks up to a kitesurfing kite - he's going back to stage one, and he knows it. Fortunately, he doesn't care and is happy to start from scratch. Something many beginners struggle to do when they know they are so good at another sport. The shame of falling off, having to take lessons and buy beginners equipment is sometimes too much, and often prevents these guys (and girls) from transitioning from one sport to another, or discovering new sports altogether.

With a mate like Kai Lenny though, who could blame the guy for persisting with the sport! In this episode of Positively Kai, (a Red Bull mini series on Youtube) we get to see Kai during the 2013 Naish photoshoots on Maui, his mate Kainoa learning a thing or two about kitesurfing on the new Naish Ride, and even a little stand up paddling and windsurfing. Another day in paradise for Kai, but that's what he does!

Hmmm... How could you get Kelly Slater to pick up a trainer kite?
