Imagine earning a living out of what you love doing, get a part-time job wherever you travel around the world. You do not need to be a super-duper kiteboarder, as long as you can kite competently and have the passion in the sport, you too, can become a Kiteboard Instructor.
Kiteboard Instructor Course Pre-requisites
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a certified IKO kiteboarder Level 3 for at least 1 year
- Have an IKO assistant instructor certification or provide evidence of or a letter of recommendation from teaching experience in a water or aerial sport
- Have a valid first aid certificate
- Have a powerboat license or equivalent skill level if no obligatory license is required in the home country
- Must be able to read and write
How to become a Kiteboard Instructor
Attend a 5 days training course, during which the examiner evaluates his technical and human skills. At the end of the course, the candidate must take a written test and pass the exam with a minimum score of 15/20. The candidates that fail the test or are not validated for any other reason must do shadowing for a period determined by the examiner. Once the period is completed, the examiner or the instructor level 2 fills out the evaluation form and the candidate sends it back to IKO in order to be certified.

. Have access to the job opening listings on the IKO website and post a seeking employment ad viewable to IKO Centers
. Earn Product Points by referring students to become registered members on My IKO
. Post personal profile info online, which is viewable via the general public website (as of April 2009)
An Instructor Level 1 is qualified to:
. Teach kiteboarding to a maximum ratio of 4 students with 2 kites flying simultaneously according to the IKO standards
. Certify students with the IKO Kiteboarder Card
. Become a Powerkite Instructor by taking the online equivalency course
. Earn equivalency as a Level 1 Kiteboard/Snow Instructor by enrolling in an IEC course
. Affiliate an IKO Point
