How riding at the Cable Park can improve your Kitesurfing
With winter on the way, you might be wondering what on earth you're going to do on those windless days. No wind, no boat, no waves - why not try the cable wakeboarding park?
Cable's just like kiteboarding, except faaaaaaar more reliable. The pull comes from up nice and high; you're always perfectly powered, and no matter how hard you turn the bar - that cable will never crank around and kiteloop you into the ground. It's great for learning new tricks, playing on kickers and sliders, or simply just cruising about in the dead flat water. If you're just getting started on a kiteboard, it's also great practice for water starts - simply jump off the dock and sit in the water, then let the cable pull you up from there.
Depending on when you go, you could be in for a 15 minute wait every time you fall off - so bring something warm and if you can - don't fall off! Make sure you try a few different boards too, we've seen people ride surfboards, skateboard decks and even an esky lid (Yes, an actual esky lid).
Through winter most cable parks are open on the weekends - but if you live in WA, tough luck - the closest cable park is in Sydney. There's currently 4 cable parks in Australia, 3 of which are in QLD. Details on all four parks are below.
If you don't believe us - or you just want to see what all the fuss is about, check out this video of Aaron Hadlow (who's gone a little nuts with the peroxide) in South Africa. To see the world champ in action search for Nick Davies on vimeo.
