How much should you pay for a kiteboard?

A home built kiteboard
Reckon $1000 is too expensive for a decent kiteboard?

You won't after you watch this incredible video from Ando Kiteboards.

Making your own board is fast becoming a feasible option for many kiteboarders with some spare time on their hands. Information is becoming more readily available and materials are easier to come by. Over the last year there's been some fantastic example of home made boards popping up on the Seabreeze forums, from surfboards to twintips - and even a race board or two.

Pictured is a recent finished kiteboard thats been made by Seabreeze user "Stickflick" out of foam and balsa. He's also added an extremely useful board designing spreadsheet to his forum thread. Check it out here.

Want to give it a crack yourself? First imagine the hours of designing, then sanding, cutting, routing etc etc to get the board finished - then you've got to get the artwork done! You'll need several unique tools like a rocker table and heaps of home made jigs to get the thing straight; but at the end of the day you'll be riding your very own creation around your local beach. That's one of the best feelings you can have while kiteboarding.

For some motivation, (or to scare yourself out of the project) check out the video below, it's a shame the Andoboards.com website isn't working - but they do have a facebook page for more information - check that out here.
