Getting ready for the Merimbula Kitesurfing Classic

31sty? Maybe they'll explain at the event...
Lets hope those famous Merimbula seabreeze's kick in over the weekend, but it does look unlikely with rain and cold temperatures predicted - a big swells are predicted, however.

Usually, summer in the famous surf town of Merimbula means 30+ degree days, not a cloud in the sky and a 25 knot NE seabreeze that runs like clockwork. Every year at the end of November, the biggest kitesurfing, stand up paddle and windsurfing event on the east coast gives the small town of Merimbula a well earned boost. Last year the stand up paddlers were the biggest contingent, with more entrants than the windsurfers and kiters combined. The small waves and great downwinder conditions make it perfect for SUP, and the hordes of retailers and manufacturers with boards on demo give the event universal appeal.

If the forecast pans out as predicted, maybe the kitesurfers will all get a chance to have a paddle on the SUP boards? Or maybe there will be a heap of road trips up the coast to find better wind or waves (at least a surf would be better than nothing!).

The kiteboarding retailers will also be down there with some goodies for everyone to demo. Airush are having a massive demo fleet available, as are Slingshot and heaps of the shops with Ozone, North, Cabrinha, Naish and basically every other brand you can think of.

As for the big names, home grown hero Ben Wilson will be down there as usual to represent the kiteboarders, and then who else but the world famous David John, of Seabreeze fame to review and document until his hearts content.

We'll bring you more reports as the weekend goes on, and a full report next week when it's all over for another year. Stay tuned for those - and to have a look at the live wind and forecast for yourself, check out the Seabreeze graphs here.
