Day three of the Triple S saw what could have been a huge setback for the event, after vandals went to down on the obstacles during the night.

The Triple S event at Real Watersports is the biggest event of its kind, and the invite only event attracts not only the best kiteboarders from around the globe, but stacks of sponsorship cash to build the most elaborate obstacles ever created. These obstacles can’t just be packed up and put in a shed overnight, they get anchored in the bay every night while the riders party hard and get ready for the next day of competiton.

Not this night though, when the riders arrived at the event site on day 3, the obstacles were littered on the foreshore, and the kicker was upturned and dragged off down the slick further. Vandals had untied the anchors during the night, but luckily the obstacles drifted towards the beach in the onshore winds. Had the wind been blowing offshore, the obstacles would have drifted off over the horizon into oblivion. What’s odd, is that the vandals tied them all together once they hit the shore – could this be a case of a prank by the riders?

The organisers don’t think so, as everyone leapt into action that morning to help get the sliders back into position, turn the kicker right side up, tow it back to the event site and after a lengthy grid pattern search for the anchors – most were found. Unfortunately the wind was nowhere to be seen, and the rest of the day was spent riding the winches and jetski’s.

Day one and two, were both similar cases to day 3 with little or no wind for the riders. Luckily Real Watersports has a fleet of jetski’s and a couple of wakeboarding winches to use, although it’s just not the same as riding these huge obstacles behind a kite. Hopefully the wind picks up for the rest of the comp, and we get to see some real kiteboarding action.
