Dale Stanton wins Ledge To Lancelin Kite Race
West Aussie Dale Stanton has taken out the 25km kite surfing marathon on the fourth and final day of the 2014 Lancelin Ocean Classic.
Stanton negotiated a 15-18 knot breeze from Ledge Point to be first on the beach at Lancelin in a time of 24min 39 sec, more than a minute quicker than his closest rival.
“I’m just stoked to cross that line first, it’s a hard event but it’s so much fun. It’s run really well and the whole community gets right behind it which always make it a great event to compete at.” Stanton said.
Torvar Mirsky was the next man across the line recording a time of 25mins 56 sec while Johnno Keys rounded out the top three in 26min 33 sec.
It’s the second year the event has featured a kite surfing marathon and 56 athletes took part in the race.
Johnno Keys wrote about the Ledge To Lancelin kite race in the forums:
"Super fun as always got myself a 3rd place behind Dale 1st & Tovar 2nd - and super happy with result as my designed orange slalom board is back to speed & super fun to ride & was very fast in the light wind race - - in the marginal 13 to 15knot winds I used a 19m edge & 30m lines and had a few moments of 25knot board speed in the gusts & was winning from the half way mark to last 500m of race but had a massive brain fade at finish and went to wrong Red bull tent on beach 500m up beach from finish line and after jumping off my race board on beach & had to kite back out to sea and down to finish line - Doh.
Best race after L2L and a great crew of kiters on beach all day. The coarse was well laid out with large boats on very mark and was a pleasure to race. Thanks heaps to WAKSA lads and all the sponsors. Congrats to Dale Tovar, Pilot Pete & Alty in top 5 an all the racers today - to much fun "
