Can you make your own Kiteboard?

Mark (Toad) and his quiver of home made boards
Twintips can be priced anywhere from $500 to $1700 for a new model these days - but where's the fun in just going out and buying one! Why not have a try at making your own board, perfectly set up and customised just how you like it. Riding along on something you've made yourself is one of the best feelings ever. There are so many options at your fingertips when making your own kiteboard. Add some graphics or keep it natural. Shape wide tips, thin tips or asymmetrical tips. Lots of rocker, no rocker - whatever you like, it could be as simple or as complicated as you dare. It might take a couple of tries to get it just how you like it, but in the end - you'll have your own custom board! So what do you need to get started? Not much really - some plywood, epoxy and an old set of footsteps. The simplest shapes sometimes work the best, so start off by making a simple flat bottomed board, use T-nuts to mount footstraps and ride it finless. This will give you a taste of what its like to be blasting along on your own creation. Once you've made your first one, start thinking about rocker, concave, flex patterns or a 3d top layer. You'll need a rocker table to get that rocker and concave perfect, but it's easy to (once again!) make your own. Check out the photo on page four of the thread below to see a home made rocker table. Does making your own kiteboard sound like something you might like to try? There's plenty of tips and tricks in the forums, but the more proactive you get - the better they'll be! Start building and show us what you've made in the board building thread.
