In the early days of kitesurfing, kites where "powered up".   There were no brakes apart from edging your board harder.

There were many deaths and injuries as the brave took up the sport.      Over the years, kite manufacturers have applied more technology to the kites, transitioned from the powered up "C" kites to safer "Bow" kites.   By letting the bar out, the rider is able to dump the power the kite is generating.

Landing a kite is usually an assisted affair for most riders; a mate or another kiter on the beach grabs the kite.  Advanced riders have always been able to land kites solo.   With this new technology, Cabrinha are bringing self-landing to the mainstream of kiting.
