Anthony Chavez Wins the 2008 Cabrinha Race Series
When the US Sailing Association recognized kiteboarding as an official fleet category, the St. Francis Yacht Club agreed to support an annual race series that was sponsored by Cabrinha. The Yacht Club has been incredibly supportive over the years and kite course racing has exploded in popularity. So much so, that kiteboarding companies have started to take notice and are working to develop race and speed related products. Fast is back in vogue and an exclamation point was recently added with a kiteboarder claiming the fastest 500m speed course record at 49.84 knots.
Anthony was only able to ride the new Helix Cult a few times, but feels that it allowed him to go even faster and be more competitive in the 2009 Race Series - so fast, that he took the event out.
The 2008 Cult ushered in a completely new design concept from Naish. Although the technologies of the Sigma Outline and GeoTech had been logically conceived and tested by Naish, it remained uncertain how the kiteboarding public would receive them.
The 2009 kite
has been improved with the addition of the new Direct Response Steering
and Low Drag Wingtips.
