Andy Yates is back in the kiteboarding game

After six months of rest and recovery; our home grown kiteboarding world champ is back in action, and ready for next years world kiteboarding tour.

For the last few months, Andy has been training hard at home, making sure that he could catch the last half of summer to train for the upcoming PKRA world tour in 2012. In early July last year, Andy was training at his local beach in the Caloundra river mouth. A small piece of bone in his shoulder that was previously cracked (since 2007) finally broke free, spearing into his shoulder muscles and requiring surgery. Back then, recovery was expected to take only a few months; but unfortunately it's taken quite a lot longer as Andy wanted to make sure his shoulder was 100% before returning to kiteboarding.

This week there's been two video's of his first two sessions at home. The first in the Caloundra river mouth, and the second (below) video was filmed at the secluded Double Island Point, north of Noosa. Both locations are ideal spots for Andy's first sessions, as the flat water and forgiving winds experienced this week mean a mistake isn't too critical for his still healing shoulder.

Currently the dates for the 2012 PKRA world kiteboarding tour haven't been released, so we're not sure where Andy's heading first this year. Those dates and locations go public on the 20th of January, so until then - it's going to be a case of training, training and more training for Andy Yates.

Check out the video below, and stay tuned for updates on Andy's progress this summer.
