There are lots of tricks for getting a boat away from a wharf in an onshore, or otherwise tricky wind. The situation can be exacerbated by a bad wave motion, or by limited space either end of the boat, or by both. When adverse conditions apply, it's important to have a fool proof method for getting away from the dock.
