...but you first have to get to Denmark. In most maritime museums round the world you will find fascinating old craft, faithfully restored, but mostly you can't go sailing in them. Not so with the Viking Ship Museum on Roskilde Fjord in Roskilde, Denmark, just 30 kilometres west of Copenhagen.

You don’t just look at the exhibits, you can sail in them! - .. .

Visiting sailors and other tourists have been particularly enthusiastic about taking advantage of the museum's fantastic special offer to sail in traditional Scandinavian boats along the Roskilde Fjord, and the voyages will now continue to the end of September.
A sail on the museum's traditional Scandinavian boats is a memorable experience, with their enchanting aroma of tar and cordage.
"This is a unique experience; taking part in rowing and setting sails," explains Director of Visitor Services, Merete Ettrup, enthusiastically. "Many of our guests who sail out on the fjord tell us they leave here with great memories of a wonderful experience".
Everyone participates actively under the expert instructions of the museum's trained sailing instructors.

"The Viking Ship Museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year and we are marking the event with an extension of the summer. We can't promise sunshine everyday, but September is often a mild month, so we can probably expect many fine days on the fjord," concludes Merete Ettrup with a smile.
If you are anywhere near Denmark in the next month, this sounds like an offer difficult to resist!
