Sail Melbourne shows Great Britain winning its much documented rivalry against Australia, with Nick Thompson claiming gold over unheralded Australian Tom Burton and ISAF Sailor of the Year and Laser world number one, Tom Slingsby. Saving disaster, Thompson assured his gold medal yesterday after finishing qualifying with a nine point lead over Burton. Burton was racing for more than just gold, as he needed to finish in the top two to qualify for the Australian Saliing Team.
