'The sails on SOS tell the message 'No plastic bags' - SOS Ocean Racing Departure' Ian Thomson
SOS Ocean Racing is about raising awareness of the damage plastic bags do to our environment.

Ian Thomson mission is to raise awareness to make the every day Australian think before they use plastic bags, to reduce the usage if they can, if they can't, to reuse and eventually recycle them.

He will do this by setting a new world record for solo non-stop circumnavigation of Australia. He hopes to go around in under 50 days.

Save Our Seas Ocean Racing departed just before 1030 this morning on its world record attempt around Australia.

Skipper Ian Thomson bid a fond farewell to family and friends before disappearing over the horizon in a 10 knots SE. Ian reported in at 1330 with the following 'Well three hours into the epic journey and everything is smooth. I am a bit right of course as the wind is fairly south at the moment but hopefully it will let me back left later on today.

I don't think the reef is going to be done by sunset but we'll be amongst it anyway. Wont' be long after dark and I'll be in the deep blue sea'

Footage of the start is available at www.sosoceanracing.com however the sound wasn't working however this is just that Ian forgot to turn on the mics. Stay tuned for more news and footage.
