Rookie sailors relish rallies

'Rallies for rookies - proving very popular' .
Following the exceptional success of 'Rallies for Rookies' in previous years, two new routes have been introduced for Sunsail Sailing School's unique rallies around the Whitsundays.

Designed to improve sailing skills in a fun, sociable environment, the popular rallies, which commence from Sunsail's Hamilton Island base, combine expert supervision with enjoyable sailing around beautiful tropical islands.

This year, two new routes have been introduced to 'mix it up' so previous guests can experience new and different islands and new guests can get a taste of the islands a little off the 'beaten track'.

The Northern Route will head north from Sunsail's base, taking in the beautiful and unspoilt Cape Gloucester, as well as Edgcumbe Bay and a relaxing stop at the Cape Gloucester Eco Resort.

The Southern Route will take in Brampton and Goldsmith Islands, off Mackay, as well as a stop at the Ocean Resort on Long Island.

Both routes depart from, and return to, Hamilton Island and include an over-night mooring at one of the island resorts mentioned above. There are also barbecues, a Fun Race and prize-giving ceremony, with guests under the expert supervision of Sunsail's experienced instructors at all times.

"We have been absolutely bowled over by the response to our first three rallies," said Sunsail Sailing School Principal Michael Silcock.

"The first one was in December 2008 and this was quickly followed by one last June and one last November - all of them were sold out within a matter of months.

"We keep introducing new routes to keep it interesting for both our returning guests and new guests and I think everyone enjoys that mix of sailing practice under expert supervision while having a wonderful sailing experience in some of the most beautiful islands anywhere in the world - but of course I'm biased!"

Sunsail Sailing School Rallies are designed for anyone interested in gaining more sailing experience before embarking on further qualifications and also people who want to gain more experience before chartering a yacht themselves.

This year's Northern Route will take place from June 20th to 25th, 2010, while the Southern Route will take place from November 28th to December 3rd, 2010.

The five-day, six-night rally costs $1,595 per person and includes accommodation onboard and most meals as well as a skipper/instructor. Phone 1800 803 988 (+61 7 4948 9509) or visit: www.sunsail.com.au for more information.
