 | | 'Mothers Day gift - a sailing class'
.
| A woman who customarily sails with the male of the species may find it difficult to pick up sailing skills, particularly if those males are part of her family and love to do it all themselves.
If you want the woman in your life to enjoy sailing and she isn't at the moment, maybe some 'women only' sailing classes could make a great Mothers' Day present.
There are sure to be such sailing courses close to where you are, but one Australian sailing club is making it a feature. TSS Sailing Club and Sail Training Centre on the Gold Coast is accredited as a Yachting Australia Training Centre to deliver the nationally recognised 'Small Boat Sailing' stream of training and qualification.
Through May and June 2009, a program will be offered exclusively for women to undertake a six-week course which upon successful completion, will attain Yachting Australia Small Boat Sailing Level One and Two certification.
This course is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to small boat sailing for novices. The course includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential knowledge that will allow participants the freedom of sailing small boats with guidance from the Instructor or Coach.
The syllabus provides a comprehensive overview of small boat sailing principles and practices including rigging, ropework, sailing techniques and maneuvers, rescue procedures and drills, launching and recovery, sailing background and theory, meteorology, winds, tides and currents.
Starting May 13, the course runs 9am to 12 noon each Wednesday morning and concludes on June 17. This course is strictly limited to 10 persons only and pre-enrolment is essential. Mother's Day gift certificates are available but must be purchased before May 4 through the TSSSC Sailing Office.
Registration forms and further information is available at www.tss.yachting.org.au/mum. Contact Drew Hulton-Smith, TSS Director of Sailing at (07) 5531 9895 or email drew.hulton-smith@tss.qld.edu.aufor further information.
