A maritime security alert has been issued following the possible hijack of a civilian yacht in the Indian Ocean. Preliminary reports, as reported earlier by Sail-World, indicate that the vessel has three British nationals on board and was seized in the vicinity of the Seychelles. While the current average detention period for a vessel held by Somali pirates is just over 120 days, non-commercial yachts without proper kidnap and ransom insurance face a much lengthier detention period.
