Australian National Maritime Museum
Darling Harbour
Step back in time for an 18th century tall ship adventure with the National Maritime Museum's Family Endeavour Adventure from 6 pm to 8 pm on Saturday 7 November.
Bring the family to experience a special evening at the museum's wharf aboard the full-scale replica of Captain Cook's HMB Endeavour - 18th century sailors dress encouraged!
Ableseaman Antonio Ponto (actor John Lamzies) - one of two Italians in Cook's original crew - will lead the children on a personally guided tour of the ship above deck and below where they'll learn all about Cook's voyage charting the east coast of Australia.
Kids will find out more about the living conditions Cook and his crew experienced... from what they ate to how they slept as they wander through the galley, the sailors' mess, the officers' and gentlemens' cabins, and finally the Great Cabin.
Antonio will also demonstrate some of the more interesting tasks performed by the crew.including emptying a chamberpot and scrubbing the deck.
Parents however won't miss out with the museum's volunteer guides on hand to take them through the ship too.
Endeavour is presented as a floating museum when berthed at the museum, showing all the evidence of the 18th century crew going about their business during their historic voyage of discovery.
Family Endeavour Adventure tickets are $25 per person or $50 families (2 adults + 2 children). Price includes sausage sizzle dinner before guided tour. Children must be aged 7 years or older to take part. Bookings essential, call 02 9298 3655.
