Today is the day that 14-year-old Laura Dekker is set to depart the port of Portimao in Portugal to commence her two year solo circumnavigation on her Jeanneau Gin Fizz ketch called Guppy. She has been relishing the sunnier and warmer weather in Portugal while preparing her boat in company with her father. The major solo sailing trip around the world for the young sailor will start with her departure for the Canary Islands.
