Don't annoy the crocs...

If you intend to cruise the popular cruising ground of the coast of Costa Rica in Central America any time soon, don't rap on the side of the hull with a stick while in the Tempisque River - or if you do, make sure someone has a camera...

Paul Stodolny, 29, from Canada, was taking photos of the lazy looking crocodile drifting beside the tourist boat pictured when a tour guide pulled a stick out of the water, and rapped it on the topsides with a stick. The crocodile then made the pictured lunge at the German tourist, and Paul, with his camera already in place, continued taking pictures.

The unnamed holiday maker never got her own picture, but you can be sure the one that Paul Stodolny took will be in her archives forever.

Mr Stodolny, from Toronto, told Murray Wardrop from Inside Costa Rica: 'I couldn't believe it even happened, let alone that I caught it on camera.

'The tour guide of that boat was luring the crocodile closer by tapping a stick in the water.

'It started to get really close and as the tour guide pulled the stick out of the water, the crocodile followed it.

'Before we knew it, this croc just leapt out of the water and seemed to lunge at this poor woman - I think her face says it all.

'Everyone on the boat gasped and bolted backwards - it was much too close for comfort.

'After the croc had shown them who was boss, it disappeared back into the water as the woman tried to catch her breath.

'I was thrilled to get the photo, it really was a once-in-a lifetime shot.'
