Auckland, New Zealand boasts one of the best fleets of classic yachts in the world. The Mahurangi Regatta is one of their principal racing events. sail-World was there on Saturday to witness the occasion of these classic yachts dating back into the 1800's and beautifully restored, being raced hard.

Entry to the regatta is restricted to yachts 30 years or older, and over eighty yachts entered.

First home was Thelma (1897) , bought back from the Med, by a local trust, restored to racing condition and skippered by Tony Blake. The oldest yacht racing was the black hulled Waitangi launched in 1894.
