Attention Sydneysiders: Anchor Information Evening

'CYCA Clubhouse' .
Marine Industries is supporting Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) Anchor Information Evening on 27th May by generously donating anchors and related equipment as "lucky door prizes" for the evening.

All sailors have at least one but it seems that not many of us really understand how anchors do what they are designed for. Anchoring can at times be difficult especially when strong winds or even storm conditions are expected. Some vessels behave very differently than others when at anchor so having the knowledge to make the choice of the best anchor to use for a particular type of yacht in various conditions and holding ground is most important.

Understanding how anchors work and what causes them to hold or trip gives us a great insight as to what to do in different situations. Being aware of the area around the anchorage, what the bottom consists of, the expected weather conditions and how long one plans to stay are imperative to knowing the size, weight and best type of anchor should be used to make your vessel secure and ensure that it will not drift.

The range of topics this evening will be of interest to those who race where the actual weight of the anchor is of great importance and the efficiency can be critical off the race course. No matter what your experience level you will no doubt find this evening interesting as we will be presenting the very latest information and technology about the "New Generation Anchors".

Our presenters for this evening have done an enormous amount of research on the topic. They hope to provide an understanding suitable for all levels of experience to better equip all to make an informed. The evening is free and open to all members and guests. Please register your attendance with the CYCA Reception on 02 8292 7800 or reception@cyca.com.au.
