What a way to ferry a boat! See the pictures! Alinghi 5 is the 90-ft long 90-ft. beam catamaran built by Alinghi for the 33rd America's Cup. To get it from where it was launched, Lake Geneva, in Switzerland, to where it would commence training, in Genoa, Italy, it had to make an amazing journey across the Italian Alps. The next America's Cup is to be held in Ras-Al-Khaimah, roughly 60 miles north-east of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

These pictures show its flight over the Swiss Alps and through Saint-Bernard's Pass to Genoa.

It was launched on 8 July 2009 being lifted from the construction shed in Villeneuve by a Mil Mi-26 helicopter and carried thereby to Lake Geneva.

The mast is approximately 50 meters tall. An engine installed at the back of the boat will provide power for the winches and possibly also for pumping water ballast from one hull to the other.
