Racing at the 41 Trofeo Princesa Sofia MAPFRE starts tomorrow and this new edition of the event in Palma, has attracted around 20 Olympic medallists from all classes and over 1,000 sailors from 40 nations.
Today was registration and measurement day at the four venues being used for the event; Club N?utic S'Arenal, Real Club N?utico de Palma, Club Mar?timo San Antonio de la Playa and Escuela de Vela Calanova. Many sailors used the day for last minute preparations.
British RS:X woman competitor Bryony Shaw said she was happy to participate in an event with such a high level of fleet competition. Bryony has had several days of training in the bay and and is hoping the good wind conditions of the past days continue throughout the event. Italian sailor Alessanda Sensini, silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is enthusuastic about her return to the event.
470 competitor Ingrid Petitjean from France, the silver medallist at the Mediterranean Games and the Class World Championship, is also aware of the high level of competition she will face at the Trofeo Princesa Sof?a MAPFRE. Like Shaw, she is hoping the weather holds and that competitors will enjoy good weather conditions usually present at this time, in the bay of Palma.
