In Rio today the NZ Optimist Association secured the hosting rights to hold the 2011 World Championships.
The Opti Worlds will be held in conjunction with Napier Sailing Club in Hawke Bay in late December 2011.
The International Optimist Dinghy Association AGM was held this morning at the annual meeting of IODA. 45 countries voted at the meeting, and New Zealand came out ahead of Peru to host the worlds.
The team in Rio are thrilled at the result, which has involved lobbying of the many country representatives to come and visit our fair shores. It will be the first time Oceania has hosted the event, at which we can expect up to 250 competitiors from approximately 50 nations.
